Frequently Asked Questions

1. when should i book you?

As early as possible! In order to give each of my clients the time, attention and support they deserve, I only accept a very limited number of birth clients a month. I encourage you to contact me as soon as you know you are expecting and/or know you want a birth photographer.

2. will we meet before my birth?

Of course! We will meet each other during your mini maternity session. But please know that we can always grab lunch or a cup of coffee and chat. Birth is a very intimate, personal experience and I want you to feel comfortable with my presence. We can also communicate via text, e-mail, phone or video chat - I’m flexible based on whatever you are most comfortable with.

3. Why is birth photography so expensive?

I'm on call 24/7 for YOU from 38 weeks until you deliver. What does that mean for me? It means being fully willing to drop whatever I'm doing, whether it be an important family event, a holiday, etc.. to be by your side and document the birth of your baby. It means no vacations, no drinking, limited outings during this time-frame. Then I will be with you from active labor until up to two hours after you have delivered. But my work doesn’t stop there! I will spend countless hours editing your birth story so that it can be delivered to you within my 30 day turnaround time. It's a long and labor-intesive job that I absolutely adore!

4. what if I have a cesarean?

Cesareans are just as important to document! To be completely honest, it’s hard for me, as a photographer, to be allowed access to the OR. There is typically only one support person allowed in (and client’s first choice is usually their birth partner), but it’s not impossible. It just takes a lot of advocating on your part. Worst case scenario, I document everything leading up to the c-section (check in, pre-op, etc..), then send my backup camera in with your birth partner, and resume documenting post delivery moments as usual.

5. what if you miss the birth?

Birth and babies are so unpredictable! Missed births can happen but it is very rare on my part. I do work with a back up photographer I can send in my place in case of illness or emergencies. If I were to miss the birth because everything happened super fast (precipitous birth), I will still come to your place of birth and document as much of your story as I can – in this case – a fast and unpredictable birth is client’s story. If there are too many missed moment to build a full gallery, I am happy to add a Fresh 48, Lifestyle Newborn or Family Session.

7. when and How will i receive my images?

There is a 30 day turn-around time on all sessions, including births. Although my goal is to try to get your gallery done as quickly as possible, some months are busier than others. You do receive a sneak peek within 48-72 hours of leaving your birth space. If you'd like to put a rush on your gallery for a 5 business day turn-around, a $150 rush fee will be added. Your images will be delivered via an online digital gallery where you will be able to download high-resolution images meant for printing, along with web-sized images which are perfect for sharing on social media platforms.

8. will you post my photos online?

I only share birth images with permission from my clients. As you probably know, social media is my largest tool for sharing my work. I would love the opportunity to share a few birth images on my website/portfolio and with my followers. But, ultimately, the decision is completely up to you.

6. will my photos be in color, black + white, or both?

Both! Some images look better in black and white - depending on lighting, mood and circumstance.
